About the organization

Transfarmation Austria is an organization that supports the transition to plant-based agriculture and nutrition. It offers educational and awareness-raising work to promote this change. While the organization sees transfarmation as a global movement, the focus is on its implementation in Europe, particularly in Austria.

There is actually no better leverage, no more authentic value than a farmer who quits (the animal industry) because he can no longer do so, for example to separate mother and child in milk production, and he really communicates that, and that really touches the listeners when he then tells the individual stories about the animals.

Transfarmation's work touches on three central focus areas of Stiftung Zukunft jetzt! :

Education, science and research, Plant-based diet, Animal welfare, animal ethics and animal rights, Measures for climate adaptation and Conservation of nature and environment.

The financial support from Stiftung Zukunft jetzt! enables Transfarmation Austria to implement educational and awareness-raising measures in these areas.

PROJECT DETAILS

What we fund

The financial support allows Transfarmation Austria to further expand its educational and awareness-raising initiatives. This includes the development of information materials on plant-based agriculture, the implementation of public campaigns and the promotion of animal ethics discourse through social media content, specialist lectures and workshops.

Activities 2025

In 2025, TransFARMation Austria further expanded its work in the fields of research, education, and public outreach. The aim was to make knowledge about the protein and agricultural transition more visible, to stimulate societal debate, and to present differentiated alternatives to the animal industry.

Research & Knowledge Production

Research and Content Development

A key focus in 2025 was the scientific and practice-oriented analysis of transfarmation processes in agriculture and society. This included:

  • work on case studies documenting farm transitions

  • the conception and preparation of several research and publication projects

  • the development of freely accessible knowledge formats on plant-based agriculture, animal ethics, and societal transformation

These efforts serve as a foundation for orientation and reflection for the general public, civil society, and stakeholders within the agricultural and food systems.

Education, Lectures & Events

Educational and Event Activities

In 2025, TransFARMation Austria participated in a variety of events through lectures, panels, and discussion formats, including:

  • the kick-off and contributions to the Vienna Animal Studies lecture series

  • lectures and discussions at Veggie Planet Graz

  • contributions to the Austrian Animal Rights Congress in Vienna

  • public lecture evenings on animals, ethics, activism, and technology

The goal of these activities was to share knowledge, broaden perspectives, and foster interdisciplinary exchange.

Community Building & Networking

Community Building and Exchange

In addition to research and education, 2025 was strongly shaped by networking and community work. TransFARMation Austria facilitated dialogue between academia, activism, civil society, and an interested public—both at events and via digital channels.

Public Outreach & Social Media

Public Communication and Awareness-Raising

Throughout 2025, content on the following topics was regularly published via social media, the website, and visual formats:

  • plant-based agriculture

  • animal ethics and antispeciesism

  • societal transformation

The aim was to present complex topics in an accessible way and to reach a broader audience.

Projects in Preparation

Outlook and Upcoming Projects

Several projects were prepared in 2025 for the coming years, including:

  • the translation and adaptation of international transfarmation guidelines

  • a video series featuring farmers sharing their transfarmation journeys

  • a further research project on farm sanctuaries and transfarmation
