About the Organization

Under the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) license, TEDxMünchen has been bringing visionary thinkers, scientists, artists, and activists together on one stage every year since 2014. True to the motto “ideas worth spreading,” we inspire not only our discerning audience but also ourselves.

The event is organized by the non-profit association Wir kuratieren Zukunft e.V.

The goal: to create a vibrant space for intergenerational dialogue—open, on equal footing, and beyond filter bubbles. Since 2024, TEDxMünchen and TEDxYouth@München have joined forces to create an event for all generations. Throughout the year, the TEDxMünchen community meets to explore selected topics in depth through TEDxMünchen Salons.

All participants—speakers, coaches, and the curation and organization team—work on a volunteer basis.

Together, over time, we can achieve things we wouldn’t have even dared to dream of at first.

Why we fund

TEDxMünchen stands for solution-oriented thinking and action that takes social responsibility seriously and encourages each and every individual to take effective action. Under the theme “Start Making Sense,” TEDxMünchen invited 2,025 people to focus, amidst multiple crises, ecological threats, information overload, and social division, on what truly matters, creates meaning, and has a positive long-term impact.

The project combines public education, civic engagement, and intergenerational dialogue. Talks and the supporting program alike aim to encourage the audience to take action themselves and to engage responsibly within their own communities. The event is explicitly non-commercial and non-profit—supported by the voluntary participation of all involved. All speakers receive intensive support and coaching over several months and gain visibility and reach through TEDxMünchen.

Previous funding from the Stiftung Zukunft jetzt! (TEDxMünchen 2024) made it possible to further develop the event’s quality, expand the supporting program, and, for the first time, bring TEDxMünchen and TEDxYouth@München together as a cross-generational event. The result: 680 enthusiastic, age-diverse participants—and a growing community that came together again in 2025.

PROJECT DETAILS

What we fund

TEDxMunich 2025 “Start Making Sense” took place on November 30, 2025, at the WERK7 Theater in Munich. 680 attendees experienced a program lasting several hours, featuring 19 talks, 2 musical acts, performances, and discussion sessions—live, in person, and face-to-face.

Key themes of the talks: Meaning research & education, volunteering & self-efficacy, mental health & resilience, art & music as a social force, democracy & political engagement, biodiversity & ecological responsibility, and technology & shaping the future.

The impact can be measured in numbers and in atmosphere: The Net Promoter Score (NPS) was +70—an exceptionally strong score for an event of this kind. Among the 680 participants, 76 were under 18, 217 were under 30, and 387 were over 30. The stage program was also curated around age-diverse topics, with frequent opportunities for audience engagement. All talks were professionally recorded and will be published on YouTube and the TED platform following approval by TED Global. This way, the ideas from TEDxMunich reach people worldwide—and for free.

The support provided by the Stiftung Zukunft jetzt! for TEDxMünchen 2025 enables the association to offer the event through a community-funded ticketing system—allowing youth tickets to be offered at a reduced rate or free of charge. This funding supports the development of strategic partnerships and ensures the production quality of the event, particularly regarding professional stage and event technology, video production, and the recording of all talks. As a non-profit association that relies entirely on volunteer work, Wir kuratieren Zukunft e.V. depends on this type of funding to provide the necessary infrastructure, deliver the event at this level of quality, and make it more accessible.
