About the film

FUTURE SCIENCE is a documentary film about the profound change in modern medicine—the departure from animal testing. It follows visionary researchers who are developing more precise and humane science with new technologies such as multi-organ chips, 3D bioprinting, and artificial intelligence. The film highlights not only the groundbreaking opportunities offered by these methods, but also the resistance to this paradigm shift. Through impressive portraits and analytical depth, FUTURE SCIENCE offers a glimpse into the future of medical research—a future that combines innovation, ethics, and sustainability.

We see that 95% of drugs that go into human trials fail. And that's despite the fact that they worked excellently in mice and rats.

Why we fund

The film exemplifies the necessary social and scientific change that the Stiftung Zukunft jetzt! wants to support. FUTURE SCIENCE addresses key questions relating to the foundation's purpose: How can research be conducted in a responsible manner, conserving resources and in accordance with ethical principles? The film shows that moving away from animal testing is not only an ethical step forward, but also a scientific one—because alternative testing methods avoid suffering, save resources, and open up sustainable and responsible paths to medical progress. With its scientific depth, its courage to educate, and its humanistic approach, the film raises awareness of a transformation that actively shapes our future instead of passively accepting it.

PROJECT DETAILS

What we fund

Thanks to the funding, the film can be completed, a cinema tour and premiere can be realized, and multilingual versions can be produced. In addition, a school version with teaching materials will be created to raise awareness among young people at an early age about responsible research. The funding thus reinforces the social impact of the project: FUTURE SCIENCE inspires dialogue, education, and change and contributes to the joint consideration of scientific innovation and ethical responsibility.

Funding for this project was passed on to this project by the association “Ärzte gegen Tierversuche”

The world premiere is currently scheduled for April 24, 2026, the day of the abolition of animal testing, in Cologne. The following day, the Future Science Conference will bring together protagonists from the film and other stakeholders on the topic of animal testing to address and discuss the important questions raised in the film. The film team will be in Munich between April 25 and 30, and a cinema tour is also planned.
